The beautiful Burnley Gardens are a tranquil retreat that seems miles away from the busy streets that surround them and they have a fascinating history, as far back as settlement.
Although it is secluded and out of sight, the Burnley College is easy to find and definitely worth a visit by anyone with the slightest interest in gardening.
The Friends of Burnley Gardens was formed in 1998. The group aims to:
- - provide support for and foster public awareness of the historic Burnley Gardens
- - assist with special projects selected by the Friends in consultation with Burnley Campus staff
- - bring into contact people with a common interest in the Burnley Gardens
The Friends meet monthly throughout the year. Guest speakers attend some meetings to talk on a variety of topics, generally related to the Gardens, to horticulture or to an associated subject. Other activities include trips to gardens of interest, working bees in the Gardens and social events.
Membership is open to any person interested in the Gardens or simply keen to support the group. Monthly meetings are held on campus.
The Burnley Plant Directory on CD-Rom is an indispensable aid for students, landscape architects, landscape managers, horticulturists, landscape gardeners, nursery managers, retail nurseries, arboriculturists, home gardeners . . . in fact, anyone who is faced with the question of what to plant.
Available in professional and student versions.
